Director of Finance / Controller

The Role

We are looking for a talented Director of Finance / Controller with a proven track record for building accounting and finance systems, processes, and policies.  This role will report to the Chief Executive Officer. This leader will share our vision, values, and determination to grow the Kids on 45th brand. The ideal candidate should be a detail-oriented, highly organized individual who enjoys managing challenging projects in a fast-paced startup environment.  

Job Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Manage all accounting, financial reporting, and financial budgeting/forecasting processes.
  • Manage monthly accounting close efforts including the preparation and review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals and maintenance of company chart accounts.
  • Develop cash forecasting and management processes.
  • Direct the development and preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages and analysis, including key metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Perform accounting research and implementation of accounting standards.
  • Oversee all payroll processing and payroll accounting functions, including review of periodic payroll and filing of all taxes.
  • Lead the communication and implementation of new accounting practices, policies, and procedures across the Company.
  • Ensure financial systems are appropriate for tasks performed and are developed, tested, and implemented appropriately.
  • Oversee the annual audit process.
  • Work with tax experts in the development of appropriate tax strategies and preparation of relevant tax return filings.
  • Work with the Chief Executive Officer on implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs and systems, including those related to Human Resources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred
  • 8-10 years accounting and finance work experience, including 2 years in public accounting
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial accounting and reporting  
  • Comprehensive understanding and prior experience with design and implementation of accounting policies and procedures, internal controls, and risk mitigation   
  • Adept at creating practical solutions to daily business challenges
  • Excellent planning, analysis and execution skills
  • Ecommerce or Retail industry background
  • Experience in fast-paced, rapidly growing environments  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Friendly, collaborative and able to work cross-functionally with internal teams
  • Proficient in Google email and documents required
  • US citizenship or permanent residency required
