As a Retail/Consignment Buyer, you report directly to the store management team. You work directly with our customers by providing friendly, knowledgeable customer service while processing incoming consignment merchandise in our retail store. You will be the face of Kids on 45th, and interact with all walks of life, including children of all ages, on a daily basis. You ensure daily tasks are completed to maintain a pleasant and inviting atmosphere for customers. You will work closely with your management team to identify and track trends, drive sales & productivity goals, provide genuine quality service experiences, and maintain overall efficient and productive store operations.

Responsibilities

  • Greet & communicate with customers in a positive, friendly, upbeat manner
  • Offer accurate product and service knowledge, both in person and over the phone
  • Perform all point of sale tasks, including cash handling and customer purchasing
  • Take ownership in keeping the store and your work station clean, organized, and safe for children
  • Learn and stay up-to-date with current children’s clothing and toy trends and pricing
  • Assist customers with consignment drop offs
  • Sort & process gently used children’s clothing, toys, and gear
  • Spot minor defects (stains, holes, loose threads, missing buttons) in merchandise, and make reliable judgement calls on sellable vs unsellable goods
  • Accurately and quickly price and tag merchandise according to a specific pricing guideline, taking into account condition, brand, style, and store sales trends
  • Enter priced items into an electronic inventory system with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Accurately track and record number of items processed daily
  • Meet daily processing metrics and goals
  • Assist store associates with hanging and putting away processed merchandise
  • Assist other store team members with tracking sales trends, and implementing new sales and consignment policies and strategies
  • Report issues and trends to management promptly
  • Perform other duties/projects as assigned from time to time

Qualifications

  • Prior retail or similar customer service experience required, though there will be extensive on the job training provided. Consignment retail experience a plus.
  • Clothing retail or buying experience preferred, but not required
  • Passion for fashion and knowledge of clothing trends, value, and pricing is a bonus
  • Open/flexible schedule; must be available to work morning/evening shifts, and at least one weekend day per week
  • Comfortable working with and around children
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service
  • Ability to establish positive relationships and build rapport with customers
  • Possess excellent judgment and decision-making skills in high pressure situations
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with multi-tasking, prioritizing, and managing time effectively
  • Dedicated, hard-working self starter, with ability to work well as a team or individually with minimal supervision
  • Tech-savvy and proficient with Apple and Windows products
  • Able to lift, bend, reach, and stand on feet for extended period of time
